What stands between you and Peace?
So now we find out what we voted for, in the April 28 election in Canada. Apparently, we have possibly yet another air-head Prime Minister, after already having wasted a decade like that. How many decades do you have to waste like this? This supposedly former central banker still fails to understand the failures inherent in retaliatory tariffs. Or was he just the talking head for the Bank of Canada and Bank of England? If you want to complain to the WTO about unfair tariffs, how do you justify retaliatory tariffs? The better reaction to the village idiot would have been to disengage with the US dollar - accept only Canadian dollars for our exports. China is smarter - they have instructed their banks to avoid transactions in US$. Not yet terminating all such transactions, but restricting further usage. Smart move. We will never see anything near smart policy here. If Canada wishes to have one of the rotating seats on the UN Security Council, step number one would be ending the addiction to just being yet another seconding of every vote by USA. The rest of the world can see this, and the conclusion is that Canada is not a serious country, just that appendage on top of USA. Realignment of Canada with the rest of the world was an election priority, as well as a rejection of the MAGA-like candidate. Just like Russia was kicked out of the G-8, USA should be kicked out of the G-7 and the felon should be barred entry to Canada. Sucking up to USA has been accepted as normal up to now, but it must end. Why be trying to align with “the lone pillar of despair in the world?” For starters, ask for (at least) an observer’s seat at BRICS meetings, if you want to re-engage with that major part of the world that was sent off on its own by the Biden sanctions.
The next sorrow for voters is further entrenchment of militarization in preparation for the final conflagration. Just after being elected to find an independent pathway for Canada, the government is in negotiations with the former USA about their pathetic “Golden Dome” scheme, as well as with Europe in their “ReArm Europe” scheme to plan for an attack on Russia. You can read the full White Paper with all the BS about industry buy-in, since all these governments are actually broke. There’s a good article on the ReArm Europe scheme at Two Birds. It seems like yet another use of war and/or threat of war to give their economies a boost. On borrowed money, of course, and naturally to be paid off by future generations, if they survive the nuclear winter and have any environment remaining suitable to support economic activity. Isn’t the economy already destruction enough to Nature without committing another 5% or more of GDP to build instruments of destruction? What is standing between you and Peace?
Then there’s that “Golden Dome” nonsense, promoted by Agent Orange, the village idiot, while he is burning the former USA to the ground. Here, amidst probable fiscal default, the village idiot is proposing to revive Reagan's "Star Wars" program, formally known as the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), which was a proposed Space-based missile defence system designed to protect the United States from nuclear attack. Nobody can afford such massive outlays along with further militarization of Space. Still unknown to US military is that ballistic missiles are obsolete - a hypersonic missile can come in over the South Pole at low altitude undetected. With the entire world perched at the brink of war, how can increasing that position be advisable? How does running scared improve your life? Could not cooperation relieve the cowardice of permanent “defensive” positioning? Does fortifying your house enhance the neighbourhood? How does that improve community relationships? Why is the United Nations always sidelined in favour of the military alliance NATO? Why do we teach diplomacy less than we teach war?
I must ask all political and military leaders: What stands between you and peace?
Play this one loud and weep: - this is "Imagine" at the 2012 Olympics - and Imagine what this world COULD have looked like. It didn’t have to end this way.
Perhaps these matters of war and societal withdrawal into nationalistic conclaves derives from increasing stupidity. In a recent study, reported in phys.org and The Grist, it was shown that boys who are overweight in early teens risk passing on harmful epigenetic traits to future children. That means traits that are damaging to all following generations. Environmental factors do affect traits that were once thought to be hard-wired in genetic code. This study1 can be read at Nature.com or on DOI. It was mainly looking at factors such as asthma, lung function and BMI, through DNA methylation. But I can imagine other changes could result from environmental factors. Besides the issue of nano-plastics corrupting genetic codes so that mass extinctions could occur by 2-3 generations, perhaps one could study the changes that appear to result in stupid men having stupid children in a progressive decline in IQ, resulting in… America!

The Golden Dome is pure bullshit. Israel has it, and it has already been penetrated by Iranian and Houthis rocketry. The Russians we are told have the best air defense system in the world which was instrumental in saving Putin from a recent Ukrainian drone attack.
We can hope otherwise but it appears the West is in an inescapable vortex of decline, morally and fiscally bankrupt. With each passing day its ability to wage war becomes weaker. "Agent Orange" is the village idiot but the thugs around him are very dangerous.
