How did the Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight get to run everything?

Not content with people needing two or three jobs to survive, Trump's now blasting away what little security they had.

And for what?

Thank you, Anna! Now some Trump supporters are saying (too late) "I didn't vote for THIS!" Well you did. But you don't have to admit that you were stupid, just admit that you were lied to. And as usual with neo-liberal governance (Project 2025 is from neo-liberal junktank The Heritage Foundation), it is, by design, the poorest who suffer the most - paying the extra costs from tariffs, having Medicare/Medicaid and Social Security slashed, etc. Yes, the US is going bankrupt, but this is not how to fix it!

America's destructive performance under both Trump and Biden shows a lack of political nouse and solid theory about how the system operates - basically a big ponzi scheme whose profits get smaller and disappear in the cycle. I also see Democrats are failing to face what Biden did so wrong that Trump would be seen as a better choice. Endless wars, lying about the roots of the Ukraine war (his own involvement in the US-backed coup as far back as 2013) and sickening scenes of dead Palestinian kids without end.

Of course, it's still going on because Republic and Democrats are just two right wings of the same decrepit imperialism.

They'd have revived better if they'd chosen COOPERATION with the rising superpower instead of throwing murderous resources at crushing it.

Many excellent points, thank you! Yes, for the US, “War is US!” Since the M-I-C is a main driver of their GDP, and world’s biggest exporter of arms. Re: “the two wings,” it’s like Marx’s description of British parliament - the parties go in and out of power like links on a sausage. Same casings, same offal. Like one commentator said, Biden’s been on the wrong side of every issue for 50 years. Hilary Clinton’s two disasters, Ukraine and Libya, are yet more of the imperial doctrine of “go in there and…” Re: China, if you go back to the peak years of US nuclear proliferation, you see that the plan was to nuke Russia and China at the same time, take out BOTH “threats” at once. I would have loved to be able to ask H.C. one question at the Clinton/Trump debate: “Hilary, when did we lose China?” That is simply too loaded to answer, but is typical of the uni-polar world dominance ideology, which is still in place.

Also turns up in Laurence Ferlinghetti's Bird with Two Right Wings, which I expect you know. Useful, apt metaphor.

Trump is the last extortionist. The rise of the empire was financed by extortion and now he is trying to save the empire with more extortion.

He has betrayed his support base as they now get to work longer, harder and pay even more taxes for the empires wars fought over the last sixty years.

Will American's ever wake up to the reality how much damage the Empire has inflicted on the Republic?
